Minocycline for Acne: My 16 year old daughter started this medication for acne. She started having headaches, neck pain, and then double vision. We were back to the doctor numerous times, then when she had the double vision we went to the eye doctor who took films of her optic nerves that we found were buldging. We went right to the ER and my daughter was hospitalized and had a CT, spinal tap and MRI. As soon as the doctors heard she was on this medication they suspected Psuedotumor. She has since been seeing a Pediatric Neurologist and Pediatric Opthamologist and has had to have another spinal tap. She has not taken this medication since her hospitalization and 9 months later is finally doing better. The doctors said she was very close to becoming blind because her optic nerves were so swollen and could repture at any time. This medication is not worth it and there should be more warnings for these side effects especially for children/adolescence.

Solodyn for Acne: I was prescribed this by a PA who also works for the FDA. I was a bit hesitant to try at first after reading the patient pamphlet from the pharmacy. I gave in once the PA assured me that it was an established medicine that has been around for decades with few if any side effects. After approximately two months on this, I was amazed at how clear my skin had become. However, I also noticed that my teeth were beginning to develop brown spots on them as if I had just eaten chocolate. I shared this concern with the PA during a follow-up visit and she claimed to have never heard of that side effect in adults. I was advised to discontinue the medicine.

Minocycline for Acne: I had a serious side effect to minocycline. my derm prescibed it for acne & when I first started using it, I was dizzy & light headed, I continued to take the meds. I took the meds about two months before the serious side effects started. First thing happened couldn't breath a swollen tongue mouth sores and thrush. My mouth has never felt the same. Since then I started having severe joint pain through out my body feelings of electricity through my arms and for months I would get reactions as if I was having an allergic reaction even after stopping the meds. I was always healthy with no problems never went to the doctor for anything until I took this medication. I have been to the ER three times and have seen more than five doctors that would tell me my problems didn't come from the minocycline. It has been almost a year and I still have severe joint pain that never went away. I regret ever taking this, if I could go back in time I would never have takin this medication because it's not worth it. I read so many reports about side effects patients has had. I just read a report of a girl that went blind in one eye from this medication and has had to under go surgery. And all she was trying to do was clear her skin. My internal medicine doctor diagnosed me with minocycline induced arthalgia because I started having severe swelling in my hands. Does anyone know if any legal action can be takin regarding this matter. The teenage girls parents are taking legal action against the doctor that prescibed the minocycline to her. And I feel their well within their rights. I would like to hear from anyone that has had serious side effects to minocycline. My e-mail address is tattie29@yahoo.com

Minocycline for Acne: This medicine was good for clearing up my acne but I had extreme side effects. I itched all over like bugs were under my skin and my skin would swell up, I got the worst yeast infection, a head ache that lasted for 2 days and resulted in me having to go to the hospital to get shots for it, tight chest, fatigue, very sensitive to sun, and my joints in my hands hurt so bad I couldn't pick up anything over 2 pounds. Solodyn for Acne: I recently got horrible cystic acne on my back out of nowhere so I went to a dermatologist and was prescribed Solodyn along with Evoclin Foam cleansing cloths. After about 2 weeks of taking Solodyn I experienced extreme stomach pain and frequent trips to the bathroom. I lost about 8 lbs. After a couple more weeks the stomach pain went away and my back cleared up completely by the end of the pills. However, after stopping it, my face started to break out with little bumps on my forehead and my face was perfect beforehand. I dont know if this is due to stopping Solodyn.

Minocycline for Acne: I have been on minocycline for over a year. Had to stop taking it due to bruising which my dermatologist calls hyper skin pigmentation. I have been off it it for a week and a half and my bruises are already disappearing. However, I was told yesterday by my dermatologist that it could take up to a year or more for the bruising to completely go away. The worst side effect that I had was the brown staining of my teeth. Before this drug I could smile and be proud of showing my teeth. Now because of the staining I do not smile to the point that I show my teeth. It is embarrassing to have these stains. This side effect is after I spend $1800 to correct a couple of problems with my teeth. Now I am going to have to undergo more dental work and there is not guarantee that the stains will go away. I also know someone who is on this same med and now has gray teeth and was told by her physician that her bones are now stained permanently gray.

My appetite changed and i don't eat as much anymore, but that is a good thing for me because i need to shape up a little. I have headaches on a daily basis but i just pop 2 Ibuprofen or advil and go on about my day. If you eat healthy along with taking the drug i think the side effects are a lot smaller.

Minocycline for Acne: I would not recommend minocycline. After 4 months with a mild case of acne and no results with over the counter products, I went to a dermatologist and was prescribed minocycline. The first day i took it, I felt nauseous (like I had morning sickness 24/7), was dizzy, and even found myself stumbling at work. My vision was also blurry and I had a constant headache. Because I was uncertain if it was the medication or if I had the flu,I proceeded to take it and the side effects persisted. After discontinuing minocycline, I found that I still did not feel relief from the side effects for about 36 hours.

Minocycline for Acne: I took Minocycline last year for an skin infection, and after about four days of being on it, I noticed that my face cleared up, dramatically! It was amazing! But I've since lost my prescription for it, and it has quickly crept back. It works, but it's something I'd have to take for the rest of my life, because as soon as you stop taking it, it comes back. Minocycline is an antibiotic that kills the bacteria in your pores so when they become clogged they don't turn in to yellow heads.

While on it, I still had frequent whiteheads on a daily basis. Once off of it, I noticed more pimples popping up, but still - it didn't even get me anywhere close to having clear skin. Minocycline for Acne: I was put on this medication after being diagnosed with a form of acne that apparently will last on and off through menopause. I am on a one month course along with a topical ointment. The Dr. says that if the acne should flare up again he could prescribe more antibiotics, or even a prescription vitamin with anti-inflamatory properties. So far so good, my throat has gotten sore the past couple of days, but I am not sure if this due to the meds or if it is just a cold. Luckily I have not experienced the other symptoms that many people have been having.

At that time, I went to see my GP and she said, "If it's working, keep taking it for up to the next 6 mos. to a year." Against my better judgment, I took the Minocycline for another two months. The efficacy obviously diminished over time and did not solve the root problem, whatever it may be.

Recently I went to a doctor for Sclerotherapy and she took one look at my legs (large "bruises") and said I was suffering from Minocycline buildup and that the medication was seaping through my leg veins and causing the "bruises". No previous doctors ever said that Minocycline should only be taken for a short period of time. The new doctor gave me a prescription for Clindamycin lotion.
