My Dr. prescribed it for acne and it really has made a difference in my skin, although the healing process is slow. I do find it hard to take this drug regularly as it needs to be taken on an empty stomach twice per day. My doctor told me to just avoid taking it with high calcium foods. I have noticed a slight increase in small headaches since I began taking it and a few extra cold sores (that heal very quickly) but not other side effects.

She prescribed 55 mg and the results were immediate and remarkable. I've been on it for 4 months and have had no side effects (I take NO other medications though) and have had ZERO breakouts. As other reviewers have mentioned, it is expensive so be sure to get the discount card from your Doctor which is good for 3 refills. I see my Doctor every 3 months so she can monitor my progress and give me another card. I have paid only $10 a month for this medication since I started it. My confidence has skyrocketed and I'm saving a ton of money on makeup!

Mincocyline is antibiotic in the tetracycline family that is widely used to treat RA, MS, and GWS/GWI. (see research published at (http://immed.org/).
Research as shown Minocycline as effective other DMARDs, without the serious side effects and cost of other DMARDs.

I am currently suffering from a mild case of acne and my dermatologist presribed me this medication. The first day I took it I felt drowsy and nausiated after a few hours. It made me so sick that I ended up vomiting(in which the vomit was a weird slimy saliva consistency). At first I didn't know if it was the medication for sure so I proceeded to take it for a couple more days to find out. In those days I felt so sick and couldn't function properly. I felt like I was going to fall over everytime I stood up and started to walk, my vision got blurry, and I was sick to my stomach for hours on end. I told my dermatologist the horrible side effects that I was experiencing so he had me stop taking them immediately, and prescribed me another medication (tetracycline) which I'm still currently taking. Tetracycline has improved my acne dramatically and doesnt have the horrible side effects of minocycline.

Although it helps with Acne, it certainly has its side effects. I first noticed that my fingernails were turning blue. That really causes a problem if I was admitted to a hospital for any problem like heart attacks. After a while I then noticed that around my mouth I had a dark ring. Then I noticed my eyeballs were turning gray. Now I am getting concerned about these side effects. My doctor who monitors my diabetic condition noticed these systems during the last two years. We had located from Arizona to Wisconsin two years ago, and recently has done some research on this problem and has ordered some blood gas' tests. Now I have a different problem to worry about. They seem to think I have some lung problems. I know I don't because I have never smoked, don't drink liquor or beer. So now I have to go to my primary care doctor who is going to order more tests. So be careful if you have acne, stay away from minocycline!

She spent 4 days in the hospital for testing. In the end they decided that the seizures were caused by the minocycline. It has been four months since she was taken off minocycline and she has not had another seizure. This drug is not worth the risks.
