Jolivette (Norethindrone)

Norethindrone is a form of progesterone, a female hormone. Norethindrone prevents ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary). This medication also causes changes in your cervical mucus and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus. Norethindrone is used for birth control (contraception) to prevent pregnancy. Norethindrone is also used to treat menstrual disorders, endometriosis, or abnormal vaginal bleeding caused by a hormone imbalance. Norethindrone may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Jolivette for Birth Control: I started taking this 7 months ago. My doctor put me on it because I couldn't take a combined pill due to my high blood pressure. I got off of this pill a couple days ago because it worsened the acne on my face, and for the first time in my life I got acne on my chest and back. It also caused my hair to thin out. I gained around 5-10 pounds, but my breast size DECREASED (worst side effect ever!). Other than that, this pill was fine. I set my alarm on my cell phone and that helped me to remember to take it at the same time each day. Periods were pretty normal, just a little irregular. I didn't notice any loss of sex drive. I just wonder now that I'm off this pill if my breasts will return to their normal size...???

My cycle is way off, comes and goes whenever and has nasty cramps I never had before. I'll be stopping as soon as my husband recovers from his BC surgery.

Jolivette for Birth Control: I was put on this BC 3 months ago because of my high blood pressure. At first I didn’t notice anything different. Then I started breaking out horribly on my face and chest. It’s insane how much. And even though I went to the gym faithfully and ate right, I gained inches. I honestly wracked my brain trying to figure out why I had so much acne all of a sudden. I’m 34 not 13. Then I came here and read all these reviews and BINGO. As soon as I finish this review, I am calling my gynecologist and going back to my old BC.

It makes me angry that women "forget" their birth control pills. Getting pregnant and raising a baby is something to give much thought to. If we want to be in control of our bodies then we must also be in control of taking our birth control.

Jolivette for Birth Control: I have been on several types of bc (Yasmin, Estrostep, ortho, orthlo, loestrin) with major side effects including serious migraines and bloating/weight gain. My dr. suggested I try a mini pill as it seems my body was responded negatively to the estrgen. I have been on Jolivette for 2 months and my major complaint is the acne. I have had very few breakouts since college, and now 8 years later, I am experiencing acne on my face and neck. I have had some weight gain (less than 5lbs), bloating and diarrhea, but nothing serious. However, the acne is becoming a problem, does anyone have any recommendations for how to avoid the acne? I am taking the pill around the same time daily (no later than 30 mins) and my diet is regular. thank you!

Jolivette for Birth Control: I've only been on this drug for a few weeks and I'm happy with it. Last night I had some slight cramping, but no bleeding. Since taking the pill at the same time everyday is crucial to its effectiveness, I simply set my alarm on my phone. Also, for women experiencing hair loss its completely normal to shed excessive amounts of hair 3 to 7 months after giving birth. I had a baby girl 8 months ago and I shed so much hair I had bald spots. It has nothing to do with bc pills because I wasn't using any. It eventually stops and your hair will be back to normal in a month or two. Research it if you don't believe me.

Not sure if her fussiness increase is due to me using this pill. With the constant bleeding it seems stupid to even take this pill. I am going to seek out another form of BC.

The bleeding will stop for two to three days then return and last for about two weeks. I have also been feeling more angry and stressed than ever since I started taking this birth control. I am switching to a different birth control as soon as possible because Jolivette is making life miserable, and the way I am running through boxes of tampons and pads is ridiculous and draining the wallet.

I haven't had any mood swings that I can tell, always been a little moody since I was a child. No acne, no oily skin, or any other bad side effect. However I have had to take a pregnancy test a couple of times because of having symptoms like I might have been. Forgot my pills on time a couple of times (seems to happen when you are running around after a baby), but used back up method. Over all this is the best BC that I have ever been on.

Jolivette for Birth Control: I'm 10 days into pack 2 and stopped today. I just couldn't take the side effects anymore. This is my second attempt at POP pills, several months ago I tried Camila, after 3 months on that I stopped due to extended periods. I can't say that the Jolivette has been much better. I have taken these pills at exactly the same time every day. Not an easy thing to do but I set my cell phone alarm so it reminded me. Since I started my breasts have been extremely sore, to the point that the slightest touch HURTS and it is effecting my daily life & work outs! I have also had bloating (clothes don't fit), mood swings, constant hunger, increase in breast size (not happy about that since I am petite) & thining hair. The worse has been the 10 day period. I would rather have 3 days of heavy bleeding than deal with this for over a week. These pills are not for me. I was on combination pills for 20 years, the only reason I am off them is my age and my choice not the ob/gyn's. I never had any side effects while taking combo pills so I am finding all the side effects with the POPS unappealing. I need to find something new that won't make me feel awful, act crazy and is safe!

Jolivette for Birth Control: I started taking Jolivette when my baby girl was 3 months old. She is now 14 months old. I had a slight period about a month ago, but absolutely no other bleeding at any time. It hasn't affected my mood at all. The only issue that I have is that I haven't been able to lose all the baby weight that I gained with this pregnancy. I guess I can blame that last 10 lbs. on Jolivette. I also never experienced any hair loss. I prefer this pill rather than something with estrogen in it. My little girl doesn't need any more hormones entering her through my breastmilk. Now that I had one period, I will probably take a pregnancy test monthly just to make sure the pill is doing its job. But, the pill is so easy to take and it's 3 minutes out of a month to do a preg. test. That's easy. Trust me...I used the diaphragm after my second pregnancy...and that's when I got pregnant with my little girl.

Jolivette for Birth Control: I have taken Jovillette for some time now, I was very pleased with it, it is quite effective but the time constraints is a bit difficult. However, recently i have stopped having my periods and my doctors believe it is normal but this is a side effect i do not like.
