Librium for Symptoms from Alcohol Withdrawal: I recently went to detox for 6 days for alcohol withdrawal. They put me on Librium for 3 days and then continued vitamins for the rest of my stay. I came out completely refreshed. Librium took care of the shakes, nervousness, hallucinations and tremors. My doctor prescribed me 10 mg to have at home when needed for anxiety.

Librium for Symptoms from Alcohol Withdrawal: I am on 10 mg every 12 hrs as needed--it works but makes me extremely sleepy. It helps, but I only take it when I start having trouble with withdrawals. I have been drinking daily for about 4 years. Nothing takes away the main desire to NOT drink--it's something I've had to dig deep within to find. I could drink a gallon right now but I'm determined not to.

Librium for Epilepsy: Superb Adjunct to AED's This medication was introduced and marketed in 1960 3 years before valium hit the market. It is not as potent as valium but is chemically almost identical in method of action. It has a slightly more energetic benefit than the sedation from Valium. This being said, Librium is MUCH LESS potent than the newer Ativan and Xanax. Librium has a very long half life which can range from 48 hours upward. In the 'days of fear' for addiction and Dr.'s reluctant on long term 'benzo' therapy librium is a valubal alternative, especially in epilepsy. Librium is in fact often recomended for with withdrawal of stronger acting Benzo's and I have stopped twice, tapering over 3 months with no ill effects. The only problem is I have to double my AED Depakote to get the same anticonvulsant effect. Librium enhances the potential for Depakote to do it's job and Vice versa. Librium will also help in unison with some AED's for Amygdala kindled seizures which are associated with some simple partial disorders. Dilantin will increase the elimination of Benzo's while Depakote does not. I am not concerned with long term use. I have never taken more than the prescribed amount and it always works the same way. I can never stop an AED so why should I be concerned about stopping Librium? As I said I have done it twice. Concern should be shown with taking increased amounts to get a desired effect, especially with stronger benzo's. Finally, the story of how Librium was discovered is very interesting. Look it up if you have some time. There were also some interesting withdrawal of Librium studies done in the 60's available that are very interesting with patients taking doses of 400, 500 and 600mg for months, for a variety of disorders, and then being abrubptly turned to Placebo. It was a primitive way to go about it but the results were not disasterous, nobody died, and If you are thinking of adding a Benzo, look into Librium. It may very help with

Librium for Alcohol Withdrawal: I was into withdrawal one and a half days when I started shaking and feeling anxious. Having already had several seizures due to alcohol I went to my GP who prescribed Librium. Symptoms almost stopped completely after 1 day and after that no symptoms at all. Don't try to stop yourself it's dangerous and could cost you your life.

Librium for Symptoms from Alcohol Withdrawal: After 6 years of drinking every day, sometimes all day for days at a time, i went to the ER because I knew I was going to be sick and they gave me librium as an RX after i left the hospital. It makes me dopey by the 3rd dose in the early evening, but it keeps me so calm that even when I do think about drinking I feel calm enough to deal with the urges. I am also taking Antabuse. Something to consider if you need as much help as I do.

Librium for Alcohol Withdrawal: Unfortunately I am a chronic relapser and have had many alcohol-withdrawal related seizures in the past. Every time I have gone to the hospital they have given me Librium and it absolutely took away all my withdrawal symptoms. No more sweating, shaking, or vomiting. I have asked several doctors in the past to prescribe Librium to me but they have all said that it should be administered at a hospital where I could be monitored. This time around however the hospital sent me home after 7 hrs and gave me a script for 6-25mg. I only took 5 and experienced no withdrawal symptoms what-so-ever and I was a liter of vodka/day drinker. Highly recommend Librium.

Librium for Symptoms from Alcohol Withdrawal: IN OCT OF 2006, I WAS PLACED UNDER A 72 HOUR SUICIDAL WATCH WHILE BEING ADMITTED FOR ALCOHOL DETOXING. I SPENT 5 DAYS IN A FACILITY WHILE TAKING 300MG OF LIBRUIM. WHEN LEAVING THIS FACILITY, THE DR. JUST DROPPED ME OFF THE MEDICATION WITHOUT SENDING ME HOME WITH ANY. THE NEXT DAY WHEN I DIDN'T TAKE THE DOSE, I HAD A MILD SEIZURE. I COULD NOT GET INTO SEE MY DR. FOR ANOTHER DAY. FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS, I WENT THROUGH HELL. I HAD SEIZURES, I WAS FALLING DOWN, I COULDN'T TALK, DIDN'T KNOW WHERE I WAS, HAD NO MOBILITY AT ALL. WHEN MY DR. PUT ME BACK ON IT FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS TO WHEIN ME OFF AGAIN, HE DID IT AT A LOW DOSE. I WENT TO SEE HIM ON A FRIDAY, AND ON MONDAY I WENT TO SEE ANOTHER DR. BECAUSE I WAS ALSO GIVEN ANABUSE. THESE DRUGS ARE KNOWN TO BE DOWNERS, AND I TAKE MEDICATIONS FOR OTHER CONDITIONS THAT ARE UPPERS. OVER THE WEEKEND I HAD ABOUT 4-6 SEIZURES A DAY. I REALLY WANTED TO DIE. THEY WHEINED ME OFF SLOWLY IN 2 WEEKS BECAUSE I WAS GOING TO A REHAB AND I COULD NOT BE ON ANY BENZO'S. WHILE IN REHAB I WAS SWITCHED TO SEROQUEL, AND IT WAS MUCH BETTER. ONLY ONCE I WAS GIVEN THE LIBRUIM IN REHAB, BUT IT WAS ONLY 100MG. I WAS HAVING A TERRIBLE PANIC ATTACK. I WILL NOT TAKE THIS DRUG EVER AGAIN.

Librium for Symptoms from Alcohol Withdrawal: This message is for all the Dr.s and nurses that work in detox facilities for alcoholics. Libriums does not work on patients craving for more alcohol, at least for me it did'nt. I recently went into a three day so-called " intensive" detox program from alcohol that cost about $6500. No matter what the cost, at least give the patient a medication strong enough to get their mind off of wanting another drink. It's bad enough we are unwilling addicts to a drug but least give us the right amount of help. They started off giving me 4 Libriums and vitamins. I've been an alcoholic for at least 20 years and stopping the shaking and making sure I get my vitamins A,B, and C isn't going to stop me from thinking about another beer or 3 or 12. In fact, the drugs were given to me in little paper cups that reminded me of shot glasses. I'm not telling you guys to give us meds for a buzz, but at least give us something to take our minds off of needing another drink.

Librium for Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD): Can you say ahhhh? I've had chronic anxiety since 10/04. I've tried and been addicted to xanax, klonopin, and valium. Librium seems to be the only thing, so far, that can control that sinking feeling in my stomach when I wake up in the morning. I'm bipolar, and naturally a wild, intense person, and librium along with the other meds I take, calms me down a lot. I've only been taking it for about four days, but it is far better than any of the other benzos I've been on. It's cheap, it works, it keeps me nice and sedated, what else can I say? It's the perfect drug.

Librium for Panic disorder / agoraphobia: Not so effective unless you are taking HIGH amount I was prescribed Librium after becoming incredibly tolerant of other benzodiazepines and unfortunately, Librium (chlordiaxoxepide) had no effect on me whatsoever. Perhaps it'd be stronger and actually display the appropriate properties of calming one down after a horrible anxiety/panic attack but for me personally, I felt absolute nothing from it...it was as if I had taken nothing at ALL and that's just plain terrible since my anxiety is overwhelming at times. I have found that switching over to 1mg of Xanax has been MUCH more ffective for me and even 2mg of Ativan helps more than this medication. I hate having to say that it does literally nothing for me but I'd have to take seriously ten pills before feeling some sort of reaction from it so I really, truly do Not recommend this drug to anyone. I'd stick with a few of the others such as Ativan and Xanax and pray for the best but for now, I know that i'll be taking myself off of Librium immediately simply because it lacks total benefits. I wouldn't recommend it to be perfectly honest and believe me, trust me on this one because I've been on benzodiapines for years and this drug is NOT one of the better ones so don't expect much from it. Best of luck finding the right medication that works for you! you have my best wishes! =0)
