Ortho Micronor (Norethindrone)

Norethindrone is a form of progesterone, a female hormone. Norethindrone prevents ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary). This medication also causes changes in your cervical mucus and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus. Norethindrone is used for birth control (contraception) to prevent pregnancy. Norethindrone is also used to treat menstrual disorders, endometriosis, or abnormal vaginal bleeding caused by a hormone imbalance. Norethindrone may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Ortho Micronor for Birth Control: NO side effects at all. Understandably, the side effects of pregnancy, as stated by another post, and the side effects of this birth control are similar - because the ingredients in this pill trick your endocrine system and the rest of your body into thinking it is pregnant. Hence, no ovulation and thus, no periods. Breast feeding does the same thing. SO when a Gyn tells you to take this BC and breastfeed together, that is because they have a good reason and authority to beleive that, for a majority of women, the combination is like a double barrier of pregnancy protection. Some womens bodies may not be able to handle it, but a majority can. I, myself was a little worried for a second about not having ANY period at all. I figured there would be at least something - but I am going on 8 months post partum with not one period, and after seeing other women having the same effect and the Dr telling me it is normal, I otherwise have no complaints! No side effects, no pregnancy, no nothing! If you are a typical healthy woman with no thyroid/hormonal/reproductive issues, I would DEFINITELY recommend this pill!!!!

It was very easy to use and free!! which was good, but all in all is you use it for endo, expect the pain to remain the same!

Ortho Micronor for Birth Control: I was given Ortho Micronor after having my child. My OBGYN said that it was "safe" to use wile nursing. Well 3 and a half years later I am still trying to find balance in my hormones. I experienced every negative side effect this drug has to offer: rapid weight gain, swelling, head aches, dizzy spells, tiredness, mood swings, and cramping. However, non of this took place until after I had been on the medicine for over a year. Once I stopped nursing, the pill messed up my hormone balance.

I have gained about 10 pounds on this pill and I had bad abdominal pain. The timing was an issue also, with other pills it's not that big a deal if you are half hour late but with this pill even as little as 30 minutes caused heavy spotting. I am switching back to Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo this week.

Ortho Micronor for Birth Control: Be careful with this one -- I got pregnant in my 3rd month of taking Micronor, in spite of being extremely diligent about taking it correctly. I never missed a pill always took them at the same time every day. I'm still trying to figure out if I did something wrong. The only thing I can think of is that I was travelling to a time zone 6 hours ahead of mine in the 3rd month and although I took the pill on the same schedule I would have if I had been home (at the advice of my doctor) perhaps something got messed up there - maybe during the flight home since time is "lost" so to speak. Also, I found this pill caused me to have very very heavy periods that lasted much longer than when I wasn't on the pill or when I was on the combo pill. I can no longer take the combo pill, and was trying to avoid using an IUD, but will be going with the Mirena IUD after this pregnancy.

Horrid migranes that never stop and keep me from playing my violin, singing, watching TV, attending college, and everything I need to do! I'm a busy person, and I HATE HATE HATE migraines. Ortho Micronor for Birth Control: My doctor put me on this birth control due to me having servere headaches & irregular periods. After about 5 days on this pill I woke up in the middle of the night with severe cramping & bleeding. The bleeding was so bad that I couldn't even make it to the bathroom without bleeding thru my tampon & over night pad - I bled all over my bathroom floor. This continued for 2-3 weeks after 2 ER trips they finally figured out that it was my birth control that was making me lose to much blood. It made me become anemic after being on it for a week & half. My doctor told me to "stick with it, its NORMAL!" I always had extreme neck pain, headaches, cramping, mood swings, tired. I wouldn't recommend this pill to no body, I was living off of IBUPROFEN,and estradiol along with my birth control which still didn't help. Oh! My bleeding was so bad that I was going thru an "overnight" pad & a "super plus" tampon within an hour sitting down, standing up I would go thru them within 20 mins. I couldn't play w/ my 2 yr old son- It was HORRIBLE! I hated the experience that I went through on this pill...

An IUD did not work due to my antomy and I am not ok with the depo shot or implant. My body did need some time adjusting to the pill. I did spot some the first month but not this month. I had a regular period once and I am waiting to start my next period in a week or so. This month I noticed that I have had some tenderness in my breast but nothing I cannot handle (hoping I am not pregos but I never have been and really don't know what it is lke to be). I have put on some weight but that can be due to my lack of exercising this last month. Taking it at the same time every day is a pain. That is the biggest problem I have with this pill. if someone can handle the combo pill I would not recommend this pill.

Ortho Micronor for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding: This should not be taken lightly. I'm perimenopausal, and have taken the generic 3 times to stop a prolonged period. The dosage is for 5 days, then a heavy period should result. This is called a "chemical D&C," designed to slough out the uterine lining to stop frequent irregular periods. The periods I had the other times were not terribly heavy, so I wasn't overly concerned this time. I should have been! This is indeed the heaviest, most intense, and nastiest of my life. Until I gave up on them, I was overflowing super size tampons within 30-45 mins. I can't leave my house, since I'd spend most of my time in bathrooms anyway. I pray this doesn't last more than a few days. I'm losing a lot of blood & clots the size of a quarter. Summary: while it does what it's designed to do, I'd rather have irregular periods or a surgical D&C. Use with caution.

Ortho Micronor for Birth Control: Actually, this is my second time on this drug. I was on it the first time several months after giving birth. I took it for a few months, then had the Mirena placed. After starting the drug, I dropped a lot of weight. I recently went on the drug again to try to regulate my periods and once again, I have dropped, so far, 8 lbs in 3-4 months. Otherwise, I do experience moodiness, but I don't know that it is worse than what I had prior to the drug. I do still have a period every 24 to 28 days. I can only attribute the weightloss to this birth control. There is no other explanation. I wondered if anyone else experienced this?

I took the Camila brand while breastfeeding and enjoyed them and so she decided to have me try them now. I have not had any weight gain, and in fact, have been losing the weight I put on with the Estrogen based pills. I have not yet had a period though I'm only 3 weeks into the pack. The only thing that I can tell is that my breasts are very "dense" and tender, almost as if I were breastfeeding again. My mood has been great (per my husband) and I am experiencing no other side effects as before on the other product (mood swings, weight gain, acne, headaches/migranes). I am a bit put off at taking them every time each day, but my usage of this product is solely for cycle purposes and not birth control, so my doc told me that I would have a few hour window from the time I took it the day before till the time I take it "today".

Ortho Micronor for Birth Control: I started taking this when my son was 7 weeks old. He is now two ad I have been done breastfeeding for almost 5 months. I opted to keep taking this for my BC method as it has been great for me. My only "side effect" has been fatigue, but then, I have a 2 year old and a 5 year old, a husband and a full time job, so it may not be the pill's fault. I am trying to decide if I want to switch to the NuvaRing this month for a two month trial. I am scared of side effects from a combined method and also, the increase in hormones. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, you know? That's how I feel about this pill, however, not having to take a pill each day would be a noce change. In short-I have had no wieght gain, in fact, I am underweight and 10 pounds below my pre pregnancy wieght no matter what I eat, and no excercise (no time!), no acne, no bloating, no hair loss. I do have mood swings, but again, I do not get enough sleep and have the usual stresses of a working mom/wife. I also agree with the poster who mentioned that when breastfeeding, no you will not get a period most of the time, also, post partum hair loss is common, and not a pill side effect. I did spot an awful lot in the beginning of taking this pill. It evened out and I am now very regular with no spotting between cycles. Don't judge your body's reaction to this pill on the first 1-6 months of use, ESPECIALLY if you have just delivered a baby! Most changes with your body are a result of the pregnancy and birth!

Ortho Micronor for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding: I have been on this pill for about 9 months. I'm 34 yrs old, and I was put on it cuz my doctor said it's better for a patient who smokes. I was put on the pill because I have fibroids, even though I want a more permanent fix (I don't want kids). But no doctor will listen, so I have been working with various pills for the last 4 years. One this pill, in the last 9 months, I have had 15 periods. I have no sex life (at least I don't have to worry about being pregnant). The cramps come 2 times a month for a few days; one being stabbing pains in my uterus, the other being a deep ache in my legs and back. My breasts ache for about a week in between bleeding. So basically I am getting 1 week a month of peace and quiet before the whole thing starts up again. And I don't know if I am angry because of the problems, or I am PMSing, because I am annoyed all the time. The bleeding is lighter for both sets and I have no headaches, but that's the only plus.

Ortho Micronor for Birth Control: I haven't been on this pill for very long, just a few weeks, but it's going good so far. I had trouble with combination pills causing headaches and migraines, but since I've been on this pill I've just had a few minor headaches, which is normal for me. I haven't had any nausea, another issue I had with combo pills, and my mood has been normal. I don't know about weight gain since I haven't been on it very long. My only problem is I can't remember to take it at the same time each day, so I can't rely on it to prevent pregnancy. But, I'm only planning to be on this temporarily anyway until I can get Implanon.

Ortho Micronor for Birth Control: You will need an alarm.... I take Camila, a brand name for Micronor. It is a fine pill but I dont like it as much as a regular pill. I have to take it because I cant have estrogen. Its a pain because your life revolves around taking it at the exact same time each day. I had to get a watch with an alarm to remind me to do it. Even a couple of hours off of taking it could mean a significant increase of pregnancy risk. I have had 3 periods in one month before, even with perfect use. And I have had no periods. Some of my periods have been very heavy lasting a full week and then again some have been light lasting a week. The norm is a 3-4 day medium flow period usually WITH some cramps and PMS. Sometimes the cramps and PMS can be bad. (I never got them with the regular pills.) They say variation in periods might be due to other medicine I am taking.

Ortho Micronor for Birth Control: This was the worst pill I have EVER been on. I had to take it because I have high blood pressure, but I stopped after 2 months. Side effects were migraines, hot flashes, nausea, anxiety, and abnormal bleeding/spotting almost every day. Completely unbearable. The frequent spotting was the worst, as it didn't make having sex very fun - so it kind of defeats the purpose, right? I would never...NEVER recommend this to any woman! It's been about a week since i've been off it and my body is barely getting back to normal.

Ortho Micronor for Birth Control: Since taking this medication, I've been a psycho mess...moody and crying all the time for no reason- barely able to function. I'm stopping this pill today.
