Trileptal for Bipolar I disorder: a drug not to be alone with I have taken this med for about 3 years. It has been helpful in keeping me calm and rage-free. The problem I had was I had no sense of humor and was serious all the time. I could not socialize with anyone, no matter what kind of group it was. The major side effect of this med is acid reflux. I also have to take the purple pill (nexium), in order to feel confortable after a meal. I am also under suspicion that what a person has a joint pain that is caused by exercising or working, the pain may never go away. I am just off the med for about three days, and hope to find something more social-able.

Trileptal for Epilepsy: Transitioning to Trileptal I have only used Trileptal for two weeks. I was on 600 MG of Dilantin and Neurontin and began having seizures. I was then switched to Lamictal, but the side effects were rough, I was constantly crying and then began to have seizures. I am now taking 1200 mgs of Trileptal and my Dr. wants me on 2400 mgs per day. This dose seems pretty high. I am having side effects: Dizzy, Dry Mouth, numbness of my lips, and it effects my vision.

Trileptal for Bipolar II disorder: One Word: INSOMNIA After having been very stable on my cocktail of 1750 mg. of Depakote and 21 mgs. of Buspar for nearly a decade, I was having some breakthrough cycling, so my doctor tried me on one of the few meds. we haven't tried unsuccessfully before: Trileptal. After reading the patient insert, I was looking forward to sleeping like a log at night. Unfortunately, after taking 150 mg. of Tripleptal, I was wide awake all night long. Only after I took an Ativan at 4 am did I get any sleep. Foolishly, and thinking this might just be a fluke, I tried the Trileptal again last night. Again, I felt like I had just taken a hit of speed. I'll be napping with my toddler today and NOT taking any more Trileptal...at least at night.

I was only on this medication for two weeks before starting to feel symptoms, trouble eatting, weight loss, fatigue and low grade fevers. Now four months being off of it I am stil going through the side effects... I ask myself How can this be? But the fact is I am on a liquid diet with double the calories I ever took in and still am losing weight, I have vascular problems and am seeing a G/I specialist as well as a Neurologist,... the worst side effect Trileptal can have SLE a systemic form of Lupus. Trileptal for Epilepsy: trileptal We switched my daughter to Trileptal from Topamax several months ago. Although the side effects seem to be mainly some sleepiness, the dose needs to be increased frequently to keep away the seizures. She was having several complex partials a week, but has had none since the last increase. We're hoping this high dosage will work for a while.

Trileptal for Other: I have been taking this medication for over five years in the treatment of bipolar disorder. I take it along with other medications, but I consider this one to be my main medication. The others are for anxiety and insomnia. I've read that 3% of the people who take Trileptal develop low sodium in the blood. Of course, I was one of the 3%. I tried all sorts of things to raise my sodium level, but found it cannot be done by eating salty foods, taking salt tablets, etc. I used to take a product called E-Lyte but its effectiveness was not predictable. Then, I discovered a tonic called Zrii, an Indian tonic sponsored by the Chopra Foundation. I buy it on the internet. It raised my sodium level back to normal with no problems. It is made from exotic fruits from India. Trileptal was and is very effective for me. Recently, my psychiatrist was able to lower the dosage slightly and I am still feeling fine. He may lower it even further. I find that there are no other side effects that I can detect other than that problem with the sodium which I solved by taking Zrii.

Trileptal for Epilepsy: Better than Tegretol for Side Effects I don't recall the dosage I was on! Sorry! Trileptal worked for me, although I had some partial seizure break throughs and one tonic clonic. However, it made me sleepy, not as sleepy as Tegretol...and better than Tegretol b/c it didn't interact with birth control. However, I do remember having a hard time...finding the right word. This was not all of the time, but occasionally, I felt kind of dumb that way.
